Excellent local diner, too bad it's a bit off the beaten path. The Philly Cheese Steak was probably the best I've ever had! Hubby had the hamburger, which was ALL beef! We both got the hand dipped onion rings & they were exceptional! Really good! Brandy, our server was a real sweetheart. Prices are good. Highly recommend!

Small town USA again. Wheeler, TX! If you find yourself in Wheeler, go by Mel's Diner on the west side of town. Mel's step daughter told me they have been there for 25 years! Homemade is the word! Very clean; even the kitchen was clean from the view I had (not the case in most places) Very nice waitress (she continually asked if I was doing ok). Those onion rings are hand dipped! Great sweet tea (very important). Homemade strawberry pie! I'm pretty sure that crust is handmade. I got here at 11a and it's a good thing I did because it filled up fast. I had a 100% excellent experience here. Yall need to come eat!

Best out of the way place for breakfast! We were traveling through and found this gem. We plan to stop every time we are close. You feel like you are in green acres. The food is great and the camaraderie among the staff and customers is priceless!

Taking a road trip with my parents and my Father has wanted to always eat at Mel's Diner so we did today! Terry took excellent care of us! Food was delicious and very quick! We will be back on out next road trip!

Excellent!!! Our first time ... on the way home from Wellington to Borger. Food was DELICIOUS and servings equal to price. Check out the pics. We had Chicken Fried Steak with cream gravy, sauteed green beans, onion rings ($1 extra) / Chili Rellenos, beans, rice, tortilla chips ... iced tea & water.

Traveling between Miami TX and Nocona TX, I stopped in for some lunch and was absolutely surprised with this meal! The service was great, let me get that out of the way. There are always claims of being in this magazine or winning this award on the menu - but this time it was for real! I ordered the chicken fired steak based on the acclaim of being in Texas Monthly magazine. The sides chosen were mashed potatoes and fried okra. The sweet tea was perfect and the okra was crunchy. The potatoes were made in house - not instant. The gravy was creamy and tasty, seasoned perfect. The chicken fried steak was perfect - not too thin, not too thick, tenderized perfectly, seasoned great, cut easily, wasn't stringy, the crust was crunchy, wasn't greasy. This is a winner based not on size like most think, but on taste and quality. Notice in the pic...the steak was on top of the gravy - first time for me ever experiencing this! It made cutting and eating the steak much easier. I asked the young man at the register the backstory on this and he said his grandfather always said when you got nothing to hide, don't cover it in gravy. Oh, they have home made pies. This was an absolute homerun!
